The
Tattarillo Award is an international prize
for Bachelor, MSc and PhD theses covering any theme related
to “Appropriate Technologies for Sustainable Development in any South of the World”,
held by "Engineering without Borders - Florence”
in cooperation with the
“Environmental Councillor of the Municipality of Florence”.
Main objective of the Tattarillo Award is to encourage technology students and the scientific
community to research themes related to development sustainability in “South-of-the-World”
contexts, where such expression is meant broadly, encompassing any reality where human development
and access to resources is limited,
independently of actual geographical location, or reasons
(historical, political, economical or natural) for such limitations.
In such scenarios, technological design must be conducted not only related to the technical
specifications but also including broader aspects which are generally under estimated.
Indeed, the effectiveness of the proposed solutions strongly depends on social, human,
environmental, and economical considerations linked with the specific area of intervention.
In particular, specific objective of the award is to investigate, develop and spread the concept
of “Appropriate Technology”, intended as a mean for sustainable and autonomous development of
disadvantaged areas and contexts.
